Unfortunately, Alistair's stable life within the Wardens was not meant to last. Warden Commander Duncan was more like a father to him than anyone had ever been before, and his fellow Wardens made him feel at home. The Chantry trained Alistair to become a Templar, which he didn't exactly want to be, but fortunately he was rescued and recruited into the Grey Wardens before taking his Templar vows.Īlistair enjoyed being a Grey Warden, possibly because for the first time in his life he truly felt like he was part of a family.
His mother was actually an elven Grey Warden named Fiona, but Alistair was never made privy to that information.Īlistair was sent to the Chantry shortly after Arl Eamon got married, as the Arl's young, Orlesian wife felt threatened by his presence. The bastard son of King Maric Theirin, Alistair was raised for a time by King Maric's brother-in-law, Arl Eamon Guerrin, and led to believe that his mother was a serving woman from the castle who died in childbirth. Like it or not, Alistair was more or less born to be a king, and he does not like that one bit. Behind that bulky armor, wit and charm lies a young man uncertain of himself and his place in the world, and the rejection he's seen in his life has left him relatively content to muddle through as he is. Alistair has no plans to strive for greater things, no ambitions beyond getting through the Blight.
